Trumba Provides Comprehensive Events Publishing for UW’s Three Campus Locations

Seattle, WA, October 1, 2013 –Trumba Corporation, a leading developer of innovative online calendaring solutions, announced today the University of Washington’s campus-wide implementation of Trumba Connect. UW joins Trumba’s growing list of large universities and organizations integrating Trumba Connect’s online calendars into their websites as an interactive, two-way communications vehicle for delivering event information among their key constituencies. Trumba Connect helps organizations increase event awareness and attendance, and better connects them with their audiences through a comprehensive suite of tools that includes a hosted, interactive web calendar, email, reporting services and more.

Trumba’s powerful event sharing features are critical for a large university-wide event management system such as University of Washington’s. The UW’s Trumba calendaring system includes over 200 calendars across all three UW campus locations. "We particularly like the way Trumba makes it easy to share calendars and event information with a simple interface," says Gregory Koester, Technology Manager, UW Information Technology. The UW Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma campus sites each publish calendars for their campus and share these calendars with departments that want their events to show on different campus calendars.

Each department across the UW has access to the main calendars and they can publish events to their own departmental website. UW created a standard event template that the majority of departments use so they can easily maintain a consistent look and feel for all published calendars. Departments can also customize their calendars according to their own preferences if desired, and can add their events to other UW calendars. Adds Koester, "Our departmental staff and event planning staff are very happy with our new event calendars. We just launched our new Trumba calendar system this summer; already we have five times more departments using our main event calendars than before, and fall semester has not even started yet."

UW leveraged Trumba’s highly customizable design tools such as custom colors, fonts and graphics to design their calendars to fit their brand and style preferences. Trumba’s customization extends to the site visitor experience as well; visitors can display the calendar views according to personal preference and use Trumba’s filtering to select from among twelve UW-customized event types. Trumba’s keyword search feature also help visitors quickly find specific events of interest.

Trumba’s seamless integration with the university’s identity management and authentication system makes using Trumba’s calendaring solution simple and secure. Trumba’s Single Sign-On feature (based on the SAML 2.0 standard) interfaces with the UW’s Shibboleth installation, allowing UW staff to sign in to Trumba using their UW Net ID, eliminating the need for calendar editors to use multiple login IDs or passwords.

Visitors can easily add events to their personal calendars, set event reminders, arrange to be notified if events change, and take other even actions. They can also set up RSS feeds and subscribe to calendar emails so that information about new and updated events is delivered to them automatically.
